Source A Crossville man who was hit by a truck while riding his bicycle in White County on Aug. 12 has died, and criminal charges have been filed against a Baxter man in the case, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Alan David, 58, of Ironwood Circle, Crossville, died in Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga on August 17, of injuries he suffered in the accident, according to THP records. He was involved in a traffic accident on Burgess Falls Road in White County on Sunday, August 12, says a report by Trooper David Hickey. David was riding his bike east on Burgess Falls Road about 11:30 a.m. that day and was hit by a vehicle that was traveling west, the report says. That vehicle had "crossed the center line of the highway and made contact with the bicyclist," the report says. It happened near Shoemake Drive, according to the trooper. After the accident, Jeffrey Maxwell, 55, of Baxter Road, Baxter, was stopped by law enforcement in Putnam County as he drove his 1996 Ford F150 pickup, allegedly the vehicle which had hit the cyclist. Further investigation led to the arrest of Maxwell, and last Friday when the bicycle rider died, Maxwell was charged in White County with aggravated vehicular homicide, second offense DUI, and driving on a revoked license. According to White County jail officials, Maxwell was still in jail there this morning. His bond was set at $250,000, and he is due back in court on October 12. Others who worked the accident included Trooper Eric McCormick, Sgt. Joe Agee, and Critical Incident Response Team member Ashley Mercer. Trooper Hickey said today that the accident is still under investigation. Read more: Herald Citizen - Baxter man charged for cyclist s death
