Source: A Kapa‘a bicyclist died from injuries sustained in a July 21 accident, a County of Kaua‘i spokesperson reported Saturday. Kaua‘i Police Department has identified the woman as Audrey Barretto, 50, of Kapa‘a. She died July 23 at Queen’s Medical Center, where she was taken after falling off her bike. According to the police report, Barretto lost control of the bike while riding down a steep decline on Haua’ala Road and sustained injuries to her head. She was not wearing a helmet at the time, the spokesperson said. Firefighters and police responded to an EMS call at around 10:05 p.m. The patient was reportedly unresponsive at the scene and medics transported her to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Barretto was medevaced to Queen’s hospital for further treatment, where she later died. The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy.
