Source: Police in central New York have identified a 17-year-old bicyclist killed in a collision with a car. Austin Elmore died Tuesday morning in the Syracuse suburb of Manlius. He was heading north into an intersection when he collided with a westbound car and was thrown to the ground, police said. Elmore was taken to University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was pronounced dead. Police believe Elmore was riding to summer school at the time of the crash, authorities told the Post-Standard of Syracuse. Follow Up Source: The school district says Elmore was going to be a senior this fall. He received a Gold Key Award in the 2012 CNY Scholastic Art Awards for a self portrait drawing. Donna DeSiato, superintendent of the East Syracuse Minoa Central School District, said in a a statement, "The East Syracuse Minoa Central School District mourns the tragic loss of Austin and we extend our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to his family. Austin was a fine young man and a talented artist. Our school community is grieving at this time."
