Source: A woman riding a bicycle was killed after being hit by two cars on Gardere Lane near Pascagoula Drive. The incident happened at around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30. The victim, Barbara Jacob, 56, of Baton Rouge was riding her bike when a 1999 Mazda struck the back tire of the bicycle. Jacob was ejected from her bike and landed in the northbound lane of the road. Griffin then fled the scene and a short time later a second vehicle struck Jacob. It was a 2006 Lexus being driven by a woman who stopped and called police. Jacob was pronounced dead at the scene and investigators began seeking the driver who caused the crash. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle believed responsible for the crash a few blocks away from the scene. The owner of the vehicle is Darby Griffin, 49, of Baton Rouge. Griffin was arrested and charged with DWI, Hit and Run, Obstruction of Justice, Driving Under Suspension and No Seat Belt. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
