Source: The Bradenton Police Department confirmed Tuesday that 41-year-old Brandt Fergerson was the bicyclist killed Monday when he was a struck by a vehicle while crossing First Street East. Shortly after 4 p.m., Fergerson and his brother, Abram Byrd, attempted to cross First Street from the east side to the west side near 10th Avenue East, an intersection without a signal. Capt. Warren Merriman said Wednesday that Fergerson "succumbed to his injuries" at about 6 p.m. Tuesday. Byrd told a Bradenton Herald reporter at the scene that the traffic was stopped at a red light. As Fergerson looked back to check on Byrd, a four-door Chevrolet in the turn lane for Manatee Avenue West struck Fergerson. A witness said Fergerson's body was thrown into the air after impact. The driver of the Chevrolet was interviewed and the investigation is ongoing, Merriman said. No charges have been filed. Fergerson is the fourth non-motorist involved in a fatal traffic accident recently in Manatee County.
