Source: A Boston University student was killed in a bike crash Monday night in Allston that may have involved an MBTA bus driver. According to the school’s website, BU Today, the name of the student victim, who was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. “The Boston University community’s thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family. Counseling services will be available on campus and we will be reaching out to support his friends and classmates,” said Boston University spokesman Colin Riley, in a statement sent to BostInno. The student, who police said was in his twenties, was hit near the intersection of Harvard and Brighton Avenues in Allston just after 6 p.m. Monday night. Witnesses reported seeing an MBTA bus make contact with the cyclist. According to Jake Wark, spokesman from the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office, it was a “bus and [bic]cycle collision.” A 58-year-old MBTA bus driver was taken out of service while the Boston Police Department and officials from the T investigate the circumstances of the bicycle accident in Allston. “A Route 57 bus operator has been taken out of service while police investigators work to establish facts in this matter,” according to T spokesman Joe Pesaturo. “[The driver] is 58, and he has been with the T for six years.” The roadways were closed down near the accident, right outside of Redneck’s Roast Beef in Allston.
