Source: A bicyclist was killed in Lacombe on Sunday after a hit-and-run crash, and Louisiana State Police say they are seeking the driver who was involved. Darnell Davis, 20, died in the accident that occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Louisiana 434/Lake Road, about one mile south of U.S. 190, according to Trooper Nick Manale, a State Police spokesman. Davis was riding his bike north near the road's east fog line when a 1990 Mazda 626 approached from the rear. For unknown reasons, the car struck the bike with its right front corner, knocking Davis off the bike. Manale said Davis, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck, came to rest in the northbound traffic lane. The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene, and the results of routine toxicology tests are pending. Meanwhile, Manale noted, the Mazda fled northbound, and troopers subsequently discovered the vehicle was abandoned in a parking lot near the intersection of Louisiana 434 and U.S. 190. Crime scene technicians from the State Police Crime Lab are collecting evidence from the vehicle, and investigators' efforts to both examine the events of the crash and identify the motorist responsible for Davis' death are ongoing, Manale added.
