An 82-year-old Mendocino cyclist was killed Sunday when he was struck by a pickup on Highway 1, CHP officials said. David Russell of Mendocino was riding his bicycle on the western shoulder of the highway near the coastal community of Caspar, the CHP said. Driver Sterling Bradbury, 18, also of Mendocino, was heading south at about 55 mph in a 1999 Ford F-150 when he “failed to maintain the roadway” and hit Russell just before noon, according to the CHP. People stopped to help the man, and a medical helicopter was called to take him to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Russell was later pronounced dead.
