Source: Mineral Wells police Wednesday evening said an arrest had been made in the fatal hit-and-run of cyclist David Valtier. Valtier, 60, was struck and killed while riding his bicycle about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday westbound on the narrow shoulder of U.S. Highway 180 East, just west of Energy Drive, police said. The Mineral Wells man was reportedly riding home as he had done for many years after leaving his job around 12:30 a.m. at Antelope Oil Tool and Manufacturing in Wolters Industrial Park. Officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of U.S. Highway 180 East in response to a report of someone lying in the roadway. Authorities arrived on the scene around 12:48 a.m. and found Valtier on the ground with no vital signs. Justice of the Peace Bobby Hart pronounced him dead at the scene. Police Thursday morning said the suspect arrested in Wednesday's fatal hit-and-run is Thomas Johnson, 27, of Mineral Wells. He has been charged with a third-degree felony related to failing to stop and render aid and is currently in Palo Pinto County Jail.
