Source: Devon Warne, 21, of Holland, died Monday night after being struck by a car while riding his bike in Olive Township, according to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sgt. Steve Austin. Police were called to the scene, on 112th Avenue north of New Holland at 10:53 p.m. Monday. Zeeland resident Rachel Bekkering, 27, was driving south on 112th Avnnue in a 2001 Pontiac Aztec when she was blinded by the lights of a northbound vehicle and struck the rear of Warne's bicycle, Austin said. Warne was riding his bike south on 112th's pavement when he was hit. The impact threw him into a ditch; he was pronounced dead at the scene, Austin said. Bekkering, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured, Austin said. The crash remains under investigation.
