Source: A person of interest has been named in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Oakland Park that took the life of a 17-year-old boy. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Thompson, 37, drives a 1995 black Chevy Tahoe and could have valuable information about the case. The hit and run took place on June 14 as 17-year-old Gabriel Amaya was riding his bike from east to west along Prospect Road just before 10 p.m. Amaya was riding his bike home along Prospect and Powerline roads when a SUV or pickup struck the front tire while he was in the crosswalk. Amaya was thrown from the bike into the roadway. The suspect vehicle traveled a short distance. Detectives said the driver stopped, got out briefly and then drove away. Amaya was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died. Detectives are looking for a 1995 to 1999, GMC or Chevrolet, pickup truck or SUV. It will have heavy damage to the left, front headlight, grill and side view mirror.
