Source: A Mineral Wells bicyclist was killed late Monday afternoon when she was hit from behind by a truck on a bridge, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper said Tuesday. The truck driver stopped immediately after the incident, authorities said. DPS officials identified the victim as Iris H. Stagner, 55, of Mineral Wells, an administrative assistant in the Palo Pinto Commissioners' Court in nearby Palo Pinto. She was pronounced dead at the scene. "She rode daily," Palo Pinto County Judge David Nicklas said on Tuesday. "She was out on one of her regular rides when it happened." The wreck occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday on U.S. 180 about two miles west of Mineral Wells. Stagner was cycling westbound on the bridge over the Brazos River when a 2005 Chevrolet pickup came up behind her and struck her, said DPS Sr. Trooper Gary Rozzell on Tuesday. The truck driver, Theodore Fina of Mineral Wells, was not injured. The Mineral Wells woman was wearing a helmet, DPS reports state. No charges have been filed, but the investigation was continuing, Rozzell said Tuesday.
