Source: Police tell 9 On Your Side a man on a bicycle died early Saturday morning after being hit by a car. It happened around 10:11 p.m. Friday night near the Carolina Grill. Police were called to the scene and found 50-year-old James Allen Carbaugh of Havelock in the center median unconscious. Police say 49-year-old Robert Lee Murray of New Bern struck Carbaugh while traveling west on US 70 in his 2007 Ford Mustang. Investigators say Carbaugh was attempting to ride his bicycle across both east and west bound lanes of US 70 to reach the other side and rode his bicycle into the path of the Ford Mustang. Havelock Police Officers performed CPR on Carbaugh until Havelock Rescue units arrived on scene. Carbaugh was transported to Carolina East Medical Centerwhere he was pronounced deceased at 12:21 a.m. No charges are pending at this time. The Havelock Police Department is still investigating the crash with the assistance of the New Bern Police Department Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team.
