Source: Traffic homicide detectives are investigating a Sunday morning crash that killed a 30-year-old bicyclist on Nocatee Parkway at the intersection of Crosswater Parkway. According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, a 2008 Honda SUV driven by Shannon Brink, 21, of Ponte Vedra Beach, hit Jared Bynum, of Jacksonville, about 7:30 a.m. Jared Bynum was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the bicycle and the SUV were heading east in the right lane when the crash occurred. Brink told investigators the sun was in her eyes and she didn't see Bynum. While the Sheriff's Office is awaiting toxicology results, there was no suspicion Brink had been drinking, and she will probably not face any charges. There are no bike lanes on that stretch of road, and the Sheriff's Office said Bynum was riding about 3 feet into the right-hand lane when he was hit. Bynam was about 33 miles into a 100-mile ride. Friends tell Channel 4 Bynum, an engineer with the Haskell Company, was training for an "Ironman" event. "He loved God, he loved his family, and he loved his friends," said Bynam's best friend, Seth Pajcic. "The most important thing is, he really loved his wife. They had a really special bond." Bynum's funeral is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church, where he was a member. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking people to make donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.

If the sun was in her eyes, she had a responsibility to SLOW DOWN and/or stop and use the sun screens that come equipped in every car. What sort of person thinks the sun being in one’s eyes is an excuse? This is an admission of guilt! How on Earth can she not face charges for killing a person through unsafe driving?
According to the news 10/18/12, the police report notes the “smell of alcohol” on the driver. A toxicology test has been sent for and they are saying could take weeks - months to get the results.
