Source: Jared Carr, 30, of Walla Walla died early Sunday on the Old Inland Highway east of Prosser when he was struck by a car while riding a bicycle. The driver, David Godinez, 19, of Prosser told sheriff’s deputies he swerved to avoid what he believed was a skunk, then lost control of the eastbound car, striking Carr, two telephone poles and several poplar trees near Peaceful PR Road. The accident occurred just after midnight and Carr was pronounced dead at the scene. Carr was on a night ride, having come from the Prosser Truck Stop and was heading toward Richland, said Sgt. Mathew Clarke. “He was prepared for riding at night and was part of an organized training ride between Ellensburg and Walla Walla,” Clarke said. Carr had a helmet and was equipped with reflective devices for night riding, he noted. Godinez was taken to Prosser Hospital for a blood draw based on an officer’s suspicion of an odor of alcohol in the vehicle. Godinez was released, pending results of the blood analysis. A charge of vehicular homicide is pending, Clarke said.

I’ve tried to find follow up information on this case, but can’t even find that the driver was actually charged with anything. Can anyone help by providing direction on the best way to find legal status information?
