Source: An Amarillo lawyer died Sunday after a car struck his bicycle and sent him airborne, Department of Public Safety officials said. About 2:40 p.m., Jeffrey Eugene Tankersley, 48, was riding his bicycle north on Dowell Road near Vista Drive, when a 2002 Honda, driven by Brent Kyle Browning, struck him, troopers said. Browning was driving southbound in the north lanes, troopers said. The impact caused Tankersley to hit the car’s windshield and sent him over the top of the car, authorities said. Tankersley, who was wearing a helmet, came to rest in a barrow ditch, where he died, authorities said. Browning, 20, of Amarillo was uninjured. Troopers do not know if speed or alcohol contributed to the accident or why Browning was driving southbound in the north lanes. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tankersley.
