Jinggang Tan, a 58-year-old bicyclist died after being struck by a car Monday evening in San Jose. According to San Jose police, he was riding his bike in the area of Moorpark Avenue and Brentwood Drive just before 6 p.m. when he was struck. Tan was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries this afternoon. Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was riding northbound across Moorpark at Brentwood when he was hit by a 64-year-old man in 2003 Ford Expedition that was traveling westbound on Moorpark. Police believe the victim’s bike was thrown into the path of another car headed eastbound on Moorpark, which was driven by a 58-year-old man. Neither driver has been identified. Both drivers remained at the scene and while the case remains under investigation, it is not believed drugs or alcohol was involved. The drivers were questioned and released without charges pending the results of the investigation, authorities explain. This marks San Jose’s 13th fatal vehicle-pedestrian traffic collision of 2011.
