Source: Authorities are trying to determine what caused a Bronx man to collapse and die while riding his bike on the bike path near Seminary Hill Road in Carmel late Saturday afternoon. Carmel Police Chief Michael Johnson said Joseph Clemente, 64, had apparently fallen off his bike and struck his head. Police and ambulance personnel responded and administered CPR. The victim was transported to Putnam Hospital Center where doctors advised police the man had been shot. He died less than an hour later. But, when police investigated further and an autopsy was performed, it was determined Clemente had not been shot, but rather that a laceration on his chest was apparently caused by him collapsing on the handle bars of his bike because of a medical emergency. The cause of death has not yet been definitely established, but foul play due to a gunshot wound has initially been ruled out, the chief said. Saturday, November 17 was the first day of hunting season allowing hunters to use rifles. Johnson said the public should be aware and use caution when walking in and around wooded areas where hunters may be located.
