Source: A bicyclist who was hit by a car earlier this week died at a Wilmington hospital and authorities said Friday that the motorist who struck him faces additional charges. Kenneth Devon Batts, 60, owner of Batts Grill in Surf City, died at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on Thursday afternoon, said N.C. State Highway Patrol Sgt. Shannon Whaley. Batts was struck at 11 a.m. Sunday by Robert Marc Hoffman, 65, of Sneads Ferry, who was driving his 2010 Honda Insight, troopers said. Hoffman was initially charged with unsafe movement violation, but now that Batts has died, those charges will more than likely be upgraded to misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, Whaley said, adding that there was no indication of alcohol being a factor in the crash. Hoffman was driving south in left turn lane of N.C. 210 while Batts was bicycling north in the right turn lane. Hoffman turned left onto North Shore Drive while Batts was turning right. Hoffman’s car hit Batts, according to the Highway Patrol.
