PARTANBURG, S.C. —Spartanburg authorities said a bicyclist has died after trying to cross the tracks in front of a train. Capt. Regina Nowak said it happened just before 6 p.m. on Sunday near the intersection of West Henry and South Forest streets. The Spartanburg County Coroner said 50-year-old Lester James McCombs died during surgery at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. The coroner said McCombs climbed between two rail cars in an attempted to cross the track while carrying his bike. "Apparently, the train had come to a stop when the man first tried to cross," Nowak told WYFF. "But then the train started moving again."
