Source: The name of the bicyclist struck and killed by a car around noon Saturday has been released. Michael Dwayne Scales, 50, of Beckley, was riding a bicycle on Third Avenue at First Street in Beckley when he collided with a vehicle, confirmed Capt. E.S. Rogers of Beckley Police Department. Scales was transported to Raleigh General Hospital Saturday where he later died, said police. Rogers said no charges related to this incident have been filed and a preliminary investigation indicates no negligence on the part of either party led to this accident. The woman driving the vehicle was charged with driving on a suspended license, Rogers reported.
