Source: A bicyclist was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a northbound Amtrak train in northwest Jacksonville. The accident happened at the intersection of Trout River Boulevard and Moncrief-Dinsmore Road. The train is stopped, blocking Trout River Boulevard while police investigate, said. Lt. Shawn McCormick of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Amtrak officials said they hope to have it moving by 10 p.m. Homicide Lt. Rob Schoonover said the man riding the bicycle rode past flashing crossing arms that were down to traffic. He said the train horn was blowing and witnesses told police man did not appear to be hurrying to beat the train. "He just rode the bike, nonchalantly just right out in front of the train and the train hit him," Schoonover said. He said the train was traveling about 35 mph. The man's body came to rest about 200 feet north of the intersection. The train is a northbound Auto Train with passengers and carrying automobiles, said Amtrack spokeswoman Vernae Graham. The Auto Train is scheduled as a non-stop train traveling from Sanford to Washington, DC.
