Source: At 2:30 a.m. Thursday, a cyclist was killed while riding on Cypress Hills St. next to Salem Field Cemetery in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. The victim lost control of his bike, hit the guard rail in the center median and fell into the road, where he was run over by a driver who also took off, sources said. The man, whose name was not immediately available, was taken to Wyckoff Hospital, where he died. Follow-Up Source: A cyclist died after crashing his bike in Cypress Hills early Thursday, authorities said. The cause and circumstances of the smashup, reported at Jamaica Avenue and Cypress Hills Street at 1:54 a.m., were unclear and under investigation, the NYPD said. "It looks like he fell off the bike," a source said. Police believe the man was traveling at a high rate of speed. He was transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center with severe head trauma, officials said. He died a short time later, police said. His age and identity have not been released.
