Source: The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal accident in Mission that happened around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Trooper Johnny Hernandez told Action 4 that they were dispatched to a fatal crash scene on FM 681 & Los Ebanos Rd. They told us that a truck pulling a semi trailer was traveling eastbound on FM 681 when a Hispanic male on a bicycle, going north, crossed in front. Apparently the truck driver applied his brakes in an attempt to avoid striking the bicyclist, but was unable to stop. The bicyclist died at the scene and troopers said the driver of the truck remained there and fully cooperated. Meanwhile, authorities told us they suspect that the bicyclist was under the influence of alcohol. The name of bicyclist is still pending.
