Source: A man riding a bicycle died Monday afternoon when a driver struck him from behind on the James L. Redman Parkway in Plant City, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The victim, who hasn't been identified, died at the scene of the crash at the parkway just north of Trapnell Road, FHP said. The 2:30 p.m. crash occurred when Sherry Lee Brant, who was in a Toyota Corolla, was heading south on the parkway, which is also State Road 39. She was behind the bicyclist who was also heading south on the outside paved shoulder, FHP said. Brant, 70, of Plant City, drifted from the outside lane and onto the shoulder. Her Toyota Corolla rear-ended the bicycle. The rider was ejected from the bicycle and died at the scene, FHP said. Brant received minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The case remains under investigation. Charges are pending, FHP said. After the crash, the James L. Redman Parkway was closed to traffic just north of Trapnell Road, FHP said.
