Source: A memorial service and bike ride are planned in remembrance of a Temecula teacher who was killed in a bike crash last week in Fallbrook. Randall Pruett, 41, crashed into a tree on Rice Canyon Road as he rode with a group of other bicyclists shortly before 8 a.m. on July 7, the San Diego County medical examiner's investigators reported. Pruett taught math at Margarita Middle School last year and was scheduled to teach at Vail Ranch Middle School this year, according to the Temecula Valley Unified School District. He is survived by his wife, Laura, and daughter, Kaitlyn, 5. Pruett was an avid cyclist and was on a weekly ride with others from Jax Bicycle Center in Murrieta when he crashed. He was part of a regular group from Jax that numbered up to 60 riders each Saturday, said Jordan Frates, the shop's general manager. "He definitely had a passion for riding," Frates said. "He had a passion for people. He definitely liked to share his passion of cycling with others." Pruett also was a former member of the Cal Pools & Spa racing team. After the crash, rescuers took Pruett to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he died two days later from complications that resulted from blunt force abdominal injuries, investigators said.
