Source: A man who died Saturday while riding his bike on Bonita Drive was 45-year-old Richard Lucero of Scotts Valley, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff-Coroner's Office said. Coroner's deputy Mike Pruger said Sunday that the cause of Lucero's death is not yet known. He said an autopsy will be conducted early this week. Lucero was riding a custom road bike west from San Andreas Road about 10:15 a.m. when he fell or crashed, the California Highway Patrol said. It's unclear what caused the accident, but CHP officer Grant Boles said Saturday it didn't appear a car was involved. Boles said the cause of the crash was under investigation. Paramedics administered aid to Lucero at the scene, but he was pronounced dead a short time later, Boles said.
