Source: Troopers are searching for the driver of a white SUV that witnesses say struck a bicyclist just after 9:30 p.m. Monday. The bicyclist, 55-year-old Orlando man Robert J. Tower, was killed in the hit-and-run crash near the intersection of State Road 50 and Forsyth Road. According to the crash report, Tower was headed north on Forsyth Road crossing SR-50. John Richards, 34, of Orlando was at a red light in his 2007 Hyundai alongside the suspected hit-and-run driver. Troopers say the light for Richards and the other driver turned green and as they two started to drive, Tower rode his bicycle into the roadway in front of the moving cars. Both cars struck Tower, who was not wearing a helmet, but only Richards stopped. The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. Troopers are asking anyone who may know who the other driver may have been to call Florida Highway Patrol or CrimeLine at 800-423-TIPS.
