Source: An elderly Hockessin man died after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle this morning in Brandywine Hundred, state police said. He has been identified as Robert E. Wheeler, 80, of Hockessin, Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said. The collision happened about 10:25 a.m. at Marsh Road and Baynard Boulevard near the Carrcroft development. The victim was in cardiac arrest with serious head injuries and injuries to his extremities when New Castle County paramedics arrived, said paramedic Cpl. Peter Small. The bicyclist was rushed to Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Hale said the man was riding his bike on Marsh Road and tried to cross at Baynard Boulevard to the other side when he was hit by a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero, driven by 83-year-old Dora A. Episcopo of Wilmington. Episcopo was attempting to make a left turn from eastbound Baynard Boulevard to northbound Marsh Road, Hale said. Hale said the man, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike onto the roadway. Episcopo was not injured. The intersection was closed for a half hour while police investigated. The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Hello -
I was riding with Bob when he was killed. I notice that crash time is listed as between 9:00 pm and 11:59 pm. As the report states, the crash was at 10:25 am. Could you make that correction?
I noticed that this is still not showing up on your map of crashes.
Regards,
Carol

The penalty includes 100 hours of community service “which must include activities related to driver improvement and providing public education on traffic safety”. The case is now closed.
