Source: A motorist in Huntington Beach who allegedly struck and killed a bicyclist and fled the scene on Friday was arrested later in connection with the collision, authorities said. The Huntington Beach Police Department received a call about 11:40 a.m. reporting that a bicyclist was hit while riding north on Pacific Coast Highway, near the entrance to Bolsa Chica State Beach, Sgt. J. Haught said. Witnesses said that a silver Hyundai collided with the bicyclist and that the driver fled north on PCH with windshield damage, Haught said. Officers and paramedics arrived and found the bicyclist, Roger Michael Lippman, 63, of Huntington Beach, dead at the scene, he said. A short while later, the Seal Beach Police Department responded to a call of a solo vehicle crash near Westminster Boulevard and Kitts Highway. The driver was arrested after officers determined that the vehicle matched the description of the one involved in the hit and run, Haught said. Joel Alexander Murphy, 27, of Mission Viejo was booked at the Huntington Beach Police Department jail on suspicion of felony hit and run, driving under the influence, felony vehicular manslaughter and violating his probation, Haught said.
