Source: A hit-and-run driver killed a 24-year-old bicyclist — a drummer in a Brooklyn indie rock band — on a busy stretch of Metropolitan Ave. Monday morning, police said. Terence Connor was near Stewart Ave. in East Williamsburg about 5:15 a.m. when he was struck, officials said. He died later at Woodhull Hospital. “He had so many friends,” his devastated mother, Shelly Connor, 44, told the News. “He was loved and we miss him already.” Police don’t know who struck Connor, who plays in Total Slacker, a popular borough band. Cops are investigating whether a truck driver clipped him, causing him to crash, without realizing it, his family said. Connor was born in Brooklyn, but his family moved to Georgia when he was 2. He returned to the city a couple years ago to pursue a career in music. Total Slacker had just begun to record its second album`, a follow-up to its 2010 LP, “Trashin’.” “He loved New York,” his mother said. “He loved it.” Besides drumming, Connor worked as an assistant at a talent agency and also did some modeling, his family said. Shelly Connor last saw her son when he visited her in Georgia this summer. “He came for a few days,” she said, breaking down in tears. “I didn't think it would be the last time. I was looking forward to him coming for Christmas. He comes every Christmas.” The stretch of Metropolitan Ave. is hectic, neighbors said. “For cyclists, this is an extremely dangerous area,” said George Bruno, 50, the manager of a sign shop near the scene. “The traffic is bad during rush hour and early in the morning,” he added. “There’s no bike lane. The way the trucks race down here, they exceed the speed limits which makes it even more dangerous.” There were 22 bicyclists killed in accidents citywide last year, according to Transportation Department officials. Through August of this year, 16 bicyclists had died in crashes involving motor vehicles, according to NYPD statistics.
